On April 30, 2020, Sovetsky District Court of Kazan refused Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Tatarstan to detain Sergei Yushko, rector of the Kazan National Research Technological University (KNRTU).
Two days earlier, he was detained at the workplace on suspicion of fraud and official forgery. The investigation thinks that in 2004-2017 Yushko was fictitiously considered as the Dean of the information faculty of KNRTU (in which there were no students for a long time). The defense of the suspect emphasizes that Yushko does not consider himself guilty, and this story has already been studied in detail in 2017. No evidence of a crime was found in the case. By a court decision, Yushko will be under house arrest for the next month and a half.
The rector of KNRTU is defended by lawyer Alexander Pogodin, Deputy Head of MCBA “Bureau of Lawyers “De jure”, and Oleg Shemaev, lawyer of Bar Association “Paritet” of Kazan.
