On April 24, 2020, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law that restricts the sale of alcohol in cafes in residential high-rise buildings. The restrictions will apply to cafes and bars located on the first floors of residential buildings. The area of the service hall in such institutions must be at least 20 square meters. In addition, the regions are given the right to impose additional restrictions. For example, to tighten the requirements for the minimum floor space or even completely prohibit the retail sale of alcoholic beverages in such rooms. On May 5 of this year, the law comes into force.
The Federal Project “Sober Russia” and MCBA “Bureau of Lawyers “De jure” initiated the adoption of the Law more than five years ago. “In the framework of cooperation with the Head of “Sober Russia” Sultan Khamzaev, our “Bureau of Lawyers” has been providing methodological and consulting support for this draft law all this time. A lot of effort was spent on overcoming the opposition of the alcohol lobby,”- says Nikita Filippov, Head of MCBA “Bureau of Lawyers “De jure”. According to him, the adoption of the Law is a great victory in the improvement of society.
